Today's Young Adult

A recent study from the Pew Forum showed quite a few statistics from the "Millennial generation" (ages 18-29).

Here are a few:

Less than 20% Young Adults attend church
75% believe in an afterlife
79% believe in miracles
33% attend a religious service weekly
27% read scripture weekly
The amount of young adults unaffiliated with any type of religion has nearly doubled since the 1980's.

Foundations is a ministry that aims to shape the Young Adult's identity. We are a community of Christ followers looking to build a foundation on God so we are prepared and equipped for the rest of our lives. Are you in?

Got Milk?

"You have been believers for so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn't know how to do what is right." Heb 5:12-13NLT

It's interesting to think that as Christian adults we sometimes still need to be fed like babies. Are you with me on this? The passage then tells us that solid food is for those who know the difference between right and wrong. Would you say that you have a clear understanding of right and wrong? If you've known God your entire life, do you still drink from a milk bottle or do you go for the solid stuff? Maybe it's time we lose the bib. ~M~

$2 buys you a square for this year's Foundations Superbowl Pot. You don't even have to like football to play! Foundations will be giving away $100 in prizes to the winners, and it will also help raise money for the ministry. The winners will be determined by the halftime and final scores of the Superbowl on Feb 7, 2010. Once all squares are sold,(100 total) we will draw numbers to determine your team scores. ReConnect + Game Night = Fantastic Foundations Frenzy

On Saturday the 26th, we are going to have a REconnect followed up by a GAMEnite.

The short REconnect will include snacks, hangout time, study group sign-ups, a member of our church giving their personal testimony, and an incredible message.

GAMEnite will include a video game tournament including guitar hero as well as many others. We will also have board games, card games, and prizes for the winners.

This is your best opportunity to meet other young adults from Crossline. If you have a favorite game bring it!! Everyone is welcome, so please invite your friends.

Foundations is serving at Father Serra's again this Saturday, the 12th. We still need about 5 people to sign up. This is a great time to meet others from Foundations and serve those in need at the same time.

We are planning on serving in the morning at the usual time of 7:30AM and when we are done, we can go over to Doheny for the Beach Party. We can carpool if anyone would like.

Foundations has teamed up with Father Serra’s and committed to serve on the 2^nd and 5^th Saturday of every month (when there is a 5^th Saturday). This is a great opportunity to serve those in need and at the same time get to know some more people in Foundations. While we are there, we setup the tables and shelves to prepare food (beans, rice, canned food, fruits and vegetables) for people to take home in bags and then clean up afterwards. The serving time is from 7:30AM to 12noon.

The first few pictures are from our 2nd annual beach bonfire this past Sunday. We had around 30 people come out and enjoy a beautiful sunset, some smores, and good company. The last two photos are from the bowling party and Father Serra's food pantry. Come and join the fun before summer is gone!! A beach volleyball tournament is in the works!!

Father Serra's serving day has been rescheduled. They contacted us and said the 23rd was accidently double-booked; the new rescheduled date is for the morning of Saturday, June 6th .

More Exciting news:

Foundations just purchased tickets to the Angels vs. Dodgers game on Sunday, June 21st at Angel stadium!!

We have a group set of 25 tickets and they are first come, first serve! Join us for a fun day in the sun and witness the Dodgers hand it to the Angels! ...Go Blue!

Tickets will be at the Foundations booth on Sundays until sold out; they are $25 each.

4/26/09- Sunday Sermon on "Joy"

"We find joy when we partner with other believers in the work of the gospel"

(Philippians 1:1-11)

There were 5 key points Pastor JP noted from this scripture:

1- The church needs SPIRITUAL LEADERS (vs.1&2)
We MUST have spiritual leaders within the church, here are some key verses that go deeper into this:
1 Timothy 3:1-13; Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Corinthians 12:27-30; Acts 6:1-7
JP explained that this is the only time in which Paul says anything about the "groups" in the church- he is trying to make it a point that what he is about to say is relevent to EVERYONE in the church, including those who are spiritual leaders

2- We need to PRAY REGULARLY for one another (vs.3-5,9-11)
Paul tells the church in Philippi about how he prays for them and he thanks God for them. He tells us a prayer that he prays in vs.9-11- this is a great prayer for us to read over and use this as a reference for how we ourselves can pray for one another (including the leaders of the church)

3- We gain CONFIDENCE when we see God at work in out lives and in our church (vs.5-7)
When we are praying for each other and the church and then we see prayers answered- or see God at work, we gain confidence (in our own faith).

4- Sharing the gospel is a TEAM EFFORT (vs.7)
We are, as JP said, on "Team Jesus"... what is your role, what is your part on this team? We all, as a church, have to share the gospel- AS A team. We have to work together to reach others who have not heard the Word of God.

5- When we share in ministry with one another, it fills us with GODLY AFFECTION (vs.7&8)
Godly Affection: center of the deepest feelings (tender mercy, love, and compassion). God wants us to be filled with these deep feelings that we can gain by sharing in ministry with one another. Paul shows us how he himself is filled with godly affection in this passage.

SO... we ALL benefit in this:
God is glorified by us praying, by the joy we find in it, and in the ministry we share together,
Others are blessed by our prayers,
We find joy in the connection we make by praying for one another.

For this blog: Leave us a story/example of how this may have or is applying to you in your life. Maybe you have experienced joy by praying for someone or gained confindence in your faith by seeing God at work, we would love to hear about it.

Hey guys and gals!

Our next Foundations event will be the morning of Saturday, April 25th. You will not want to miss this one... It will be a hang out day where the guys and girls go their separate ways!! Guys... hang out with other dudes and spend the morning doing super manly stuff! Gals... spend the morning with other ladies and talk about guys! Last year the guys ate a hearty breakfast then hit the park for some ultimate frisbee, while the girls spent the morning getting pampered... everyone had a blast!

We have a couple ideas for this year, but the suggestion box is open! Leave us your comments and feedback about what YOU want to do this year!

Weekly Devotional 4/6

Guest Speaker Pat Spoke on "Choosing the Cross" this Sunday. We need to make a life decision to choose the cross over the crowd. But in doing this we have to change our lives- we have to choose the cross in everything we do, every day, every decision we make... As Pat said, we need to think what would we do if Jesus was standing beside you? In everything we do we need to ask ourselves this question.

I really liked the acronym that Pat used and the bible verses to go along with it;

C- Come to the cross (Matthew 11:28)
R- Rely on His strength (Philippians 4:13)
O- Offer yourself (Romans 12:1)
S- Seek Him first (Matthew 6:33)
S- Surrender your will to His (Mark 8:34)

I think that we should all read these verses daily and try to remember them throughout our daily lives, not only this week, but each day of our lives ahead.

Please use these weekly blogs as a way to be totally H.O.T. with one another- "Honest Open and Transparent". Feel free to comment, share, ask for prayer... whatever!

So our Spring Kickoff was a huge success- from great food and great games to making new friends! Thanks to everyone who was a part of it and to all who were able to make it. We will have to plan more fun weekend activities like this- please let us know if you have any ideas!
